Millennial teaching Grandma

So, umm this picture just describes it all, if I do say so myself. This here is my lovely grandma at 90 years old, but she doesn't look a day over 25. My weekend came to a close when I went to her house to surprise her on my Chicago visit, a few days prior to the Cubs killing it at the World Series and a day after my beautiful friend Karen married the love of her life. Yup, we clean up well.

My grandma as adorable as she is, does not know the meaning of any technology, including how to use an actual phone instead of her old school dial up one and when I come visit, she asks me to put Raymond (From Everybody Loves Raymond) or Jerry Springer on the TV. Also she no longer has that dial up phone. So in this picture I am actually sharing photos from the wedding with her. I can't imagine what it is like to be 90 years old and to have seen such a world of technology change and television go from Black and White to Color, and UHF/VHF to having 1,000's of channels. I wonder if we will ever go back to a simpler time. That's enough of my rant of "When I was your age....."

For the longest time I didn't know I was a Millennial kid until discovering that the cut off age is actually between 33 and 34 so that puts me just a tad below but still in that category. Since I didn't quite know the definition of what it means to be a true Millennial, I asked the one "person" who would know, Siri. At first Siri and I got into a fight because she produced the wrong results of "Millennium." Let's try this again. "Siri, what is a Millennial?" In which, that dumb broad still gave me the wrong answer and hence why I am now changing Siri, to a sexy sounding British man. May'be he will get the job done better. This time I asked "Hey Siri?" In which he responded "Yes, Kristine?" Much better. "Hey Siri, what is a Millennial KID?" Now we are finally getting somewhere. Producing results from Forbes magazine I found a few things out. Thank you forbes.com

1) Millennials expect technology to simply work- so you'd better make sure that it does.

I think my entire weekend of non stop snap chatting at my friends wedding sums that one up. But hey at least we didn't do it in the Church. Respect!  My friend did make a solid point on that note, and I quote, "Why can only one person at a time be Hello Kitty?" If you have used the new Snap Chat filters, you will understand what I am talking about. So hey Snap Chat if for some crazy reason you are reading this, that type of technology is simply just not going to work for us. And I also have to point out that my friend who said that (No names will be mentioned on this one. ) is actually dare I say it NOT a Millennial. I guess the world of Snap Chat Users is just getting more and more demanding.

2) Millennials are a social generation-and they socialize while consuming (and deciding to consume) your products and services.

Basically, I think I can sum this up as watch out because we Millennials can put you out of business quickly with the drop of a 2 star rating on Yelp or Uber. Scratch that, most Uber drivers are Millennials. Heck they started it.

3) They collaborate and cooperate with each other, and when possible, with brands.

Basically, "I love you, you love me." Barney and Kum ba yah and all that stuff. Oh and let's not forget for my fellow ravers out there PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect) thank you EDC for bringing that into my life. Probably one of the best weekends of my life besides this past one standing up in my friend's wedding and Chicago winning the world series.

And another we love each other photo that pretty much sums up our friendship. Also if you look closely we can't even be bothered to put our phones down for a picture.

Oh yea where were we? And yes I actually write like I talk with no filter and a whole lot of nonsense.

4) They're looking for adventure (and whatever comes their way)

BORN TO BE WILD!

I love this one because I love to travel. Hey being a Millennial doesn't sound so bad. I thought it was all ME, ME, ME and crap but so far Forbes is making us sound pretty ok.

And here is the last one

5) They're passionate about values-including the values of companies they do business with.

This is why we have amazing companies like the Honest Brand thanks to Jessica Alba. And I am too tired and lazy to look up if Jessica is in fact a Millennial. I guess I could ask Siri again, but we seem to get into too many fights late at night when I am half awake and slurring my words.

And on this Millennial note, some special endorsements from my You Tube videos that my friend Denise I have been making together. You waited long enough, so here are cute girls eating weird food. I'm sure this has never been done before. As always, if you like what I write, please continue to follow me and tell your friends. I promise there will be more videos, photos and randomness.

Pride: My Life Behind Bars as a White Sox Fan

The picture above explains it all. My life behind bars, holding onto Pride. (Thank you for the photo, Ron Palmer)

As I lie in my old bed, surrounded by pink walls with a black trim and a purple comedy/tragedy mask (that my friend Jenn in high school created) with heirlooms from my childhood, I am reminded of how home is something that will never change no matter how old I am.

Now I didn't grow up in this house, but rather the south side of Chicago (Go White Sox). However, I did move to the North side in 6th grade and when our teacher divided our class with Cubs and Sox fans, I gladly joined the small group of White Sox fans and chose to never change my view for fear of becoming a traitor. I only went to White Sox games unless they were playing the Cubs especially with one of my best friends Cathy. I came home to not only one but two Cubs shirts that my mom bought me as once again a White Sox Fan. Now I have a dilemma, do I become a fair weathered fan and root for the Cubs which are a much more popular team and thanks to Back to the Future's pretty close prediction last year, they are more popular then ever (and yes I know I said popular twice in one sentence, and now thrice) with tickets selling up to $50,000! If you ask me, I choose not to betray the team that I have grown up to love in order to become a fair weathered Cubs fan but rather I will put aside my pride and become a CHICAGO fan. Yes, a Chicago fan is a fan that roots for Chicago and eats Chicago deep dish pizza, takes the Chicago EL, calls the Willis Tower, by it's real name, The Sears Tower, shovels out parking spots in the winter and puts a chair in their spot (and don't you dare try and remove that chair), drinks 312 and Goose Island, and loves the Blackhawks, Bulls, and Bears no matter what their view points are about the White Sox versus the Cubs or better yet the North Side Versus the South. For one time in my life I will join my family and friends and support the team that deserves to win after a curse was placed many years ago. This is not only a time for the Cubs but also for Chicago. I have never seen so much pride in one city even when the White Sox won several years ago. The Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears have had their opportunity to win big and our fans have flooded the streets. So there you have it, I am with Chicago on this one and as the song says, "Go Cubs Go."

What are you holding onto with your stubborn pride?

Here is a link, in case you haven't seen the video that has gone viral. I admit that it is pretty cool to be home at a time that is making history. I also think these people had WAY too much time on their hands.

In Karl Moore's Book, which I highly suggest reading The 18 Rules of Happiness
http://www.karlmoore.com/happiness/ he tells us that rule #5 is to Learn to Let Go
Simply ask yourself the question: “Can I let this go?” Which is another way of saying: Can you unclench the grip you have around this feeling right now? Can you release the grip? Can you let go of the resistance? Can you just drop the emotion attached to this issue?

“By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try, the world is beyond the winning.” – Lao Tzu

A Writer's Journey Continues

Lovely photo huh? Read on to discover why a beautiful woman is attacking me. And onto the next episode...dun dun dun.

My journey continues. Ok, so I have to admit that I am one day past the due date I was suppose to have my blog done. However, I did tell you in my last one that I am a procrastinator. That being said, my friend threw an early Halloween party last night and I just had to get my costume together so being one day late doesn't totally mess up my integrity, does it? Anyways, onto the fun stuff.
Yup, we're cute. Don't even try to deny it. Now you understand why I delayed this blog by one whole day. Oh yes, besides being a procrastinator, some of you already know I can really go off on random tangents. Hmm...should I change the name of my blog to "A Life of Randomness?"

So this week was quite the week. I started out catering at a Fancy Gala for a very famous celebrity for her LGBT charity which was a beautiful event. I'm not sure if I am allowed to name drop so I will just leave her name out. Oh no, I just told you it was a she. Now I have your minds going crazy with who it could possibly be. Hope you aren't losing too much sleep over it. If that doesn't keep you up at night, watch Stranger Things and I guarantee you will not sleep next to your wall for quite some time. (spoiler alert). The night was full of excitement until the cloth napkins went missing. This is the exciting life I lead ladies and gents. Now for those of you in catering, we all know that at the end of the night somehow the napkins always seems to be misplaced because nobody has discovered a little secret called putting the black napkins into a blue bag, not a black trash bag. If you are reading this Mike, love ya and please still hire me. All in all, I feel bad for all of the staff who ended up searching through the trash until Midnight, only to discover that one of event workers took the cloth napkins to the be cleaned. Crisis averted and yes thank you to the other staff members who jumped on in to try and save the day. I however, did not join in the jumping into the trash can fun, although that would of been quite a story if I had.

Moving onto Monday, I filmed a scene where I got interrogated and choked about 30 times (ahh the life of an actor) with the lovely Anna-Lea pictured below. https://www.instagram.com/annaleamende/
Also a shoutout to the amazing people at Relentless Filmworks in Studio City https://www.instagram.com/relentlessfilmworks/ also pictured below. Seriously, if you need a demo reel these are the people who make magic happen. We interrupt you to bring an endorsement, but this is my blog and I can do what I want. Besides you are still reading, I know you are. Now, Anna-Lea is as sweet as can be so I am really excited to see how her bad-ass character came out and how deathly afraid of her I must of looked when she was kicking my butt.

 See she doesn't bite.

The rest of the week was a lot of fun and a little bit of work. I am taking a course about Life Education and Commitment. Not just a pretty face. I chose to be fearless in my creativity and while I love acting and also hiding behind a computer screen typing or recording voice overs, I am terrified of public speaking. I decided what the heck, lets just do it like Nike says. I figured this would be my first attempt at speaking in front of people in a vulnerable and hopefully funny and clever way and if for some reason I bomb then I could just cry myself to sleep. I also have this crazy plan in my head that one day I will attempt stand up comedy. Now that scares the heck out of me. Being my super original self I decided to talk about my fears and flaws in a rhyme that can best be described as "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." Now I thought it was cute and clever and I got a lot a laughs and a few awwws but the next part I never expected. One of my classmates reached out to me because she liked my writing saying I had "poetic talent." Not to get all mushy but it was probably one of the nicest things anyone has told me in a while. She asked if she could hire me to help her come up with a sort of poetic jingle/slogan for a International Women's Peace conference that she will be speaking at. This is completely unfamiliar territory for me but I am so excited to be helping her out and so many other women. Now yes I enjoy being a little silly and funny and can go on and on about how much I partied this week with some of my closest friends, and all the crazy antics that occurred but I am here to own my creativity and take myself as well as any of you reading this on the journey of my life as it evolves. No more procrastination, as I have so many exciting projects in the works that I can't wait to share with you all. So there you have it, little by little I am creating a new life for myself that I am the owner of and I thank you for sharing it with me.

And now your quote of the day as promised, brought to you from the movie Vanilla Sky. And yes I used to work in radio, hence the radio announcer voice. Just imagine it in your head for a second. I'll be quiet.

"Every passing moment is a chance to turn it all around."

Life as a 30 Something Year Old

Wow, so I decided that I am truly wonderful at one and only thing in life and that is PROCRASTINATION. I opened up this blog for the first time since my last post which sadly was Jan of 2011 when I was a 20 something year old. Today, as I sit in my dimly lit room eating Trader Joe's Joe-Joe's n cream (because yes I am an adult and I can do what I want) straight from the carton, I am reminded first of all that this is a horrible run on sentence and also that I am now a 30 something year old adult.  For one, I am typing this out on my Macbook pro because I have switched to all Apple Products in my adulthood. Now does it make me sound any more grown up to be using these expensive yet very reliable products? No of course it does not but that is just one of the many changes I have made since my last blog in my 20 something years. Also if you are still reading this, then let us face the sad story of your life, that you have nothing else to do but read my very all over the place remarks. Now, I can't promise you that my writing will be even a little bit grammatically correct or spelled correctly so thank you to my College professors for 4 years of private University education. You have served me well. I can promise you, that you will read a lot of nonsense and maybe even a bit of humor. Hopefully my words of wisdom  can brighten your day for just a few moments. In my opinion being present is the best feeling in the world and also one of the hardest things to do. In my 30 something year old days, I have started to do what you might call "soul searching" because hey I am not getting any younger and I now live in LA which is pretty much the center of hipsters, eating strange foods and organic diets as well as trying to "find yourself." Why is this so, you may ask? Because as Californians (If you don't know what I mean, Google SNL The Californians) we have nothing better to do in between our next gigs and driving on the 405 whether it be acting, modeling, music, photography, catering, promotions etc. We are all here in the same boat, lots of random jobs and way too much time on our hands. There you have it, ladies and gents. This is my disclaimer to you so please continue to read at your own risk.

Let's get to it. Some of you reading are my friends and for those of you who are not, I hope we can become friends in the near future. (cue adorable emoji) Upon moving to LA, my life took a serious turn from having careers such as working as Supervisor in a very fancy 5 star hotel to becoming a Flight Attendant. I will stop you right there because I have heard just about every Airline joke and yes they are all true and no there is no such thing as an "air sample." Moving on...I came to LA a little over 5 years ago with a dream and very little money in my pockets and both remain true today. As I became the dreaded 30 (violent screams), I realized that I had so many projects that I would start and then never complete. I decided that today will be my attempt (because admitting you have a problem is the first step) at maintaining a blog. I needed a creative outlet and here it is. Since I am so good at procrastination, I figured why not get it all out and hopefully not bore all of you in the process.

There are several things that I have wanted to accomplish as well as projects I am currently working on. As I start working on or completing them I hope to bring you along on my journey. Recently. I have been taking photos with a very talented photographer and my dear friend. For each blog I have decided to include one of the photos and link it to my Instagram and my blog. Haha now you have to follow me on all social media. My devious plan has worked. Not really, but if you want to follow me, I will more than likely follow you back but please no inappropriate photos. I get enough of that on snap chat and always remember there is a screenshot button for a reason. You don't want your dirty parts being spread for all the world to see and neither do. Let's play by the rules here. Also if you notice my Instagram account, I like inspirational quotes so I am going to link not only a photo of yours truly to my blog and Insta but also you get a free quote of the day. You're welcome. (claps hands) I am truly proud of myself for working on my first blog since 2011. Procrastination you will not win this battle. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I am attempting to do one a week and hopefully work my way up to one every couple of days.

And now your inspirational quote of the day....drum rolls please

This is brought to you by the beautiful and feisty Katharine Hepburn.

"If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun."

Thank you for reading and stay tuned....
